Dolcetto d'Alba DOC

Ellena Giuseppe
Dolcetto d'Alba DOC

The Dolcetto hails from a single vineyard, aptly named ‘Paradiso’, situated at 650 feet in elevation, located in the La Morra area of Piedmont. The vines are cropped relatively low and the grapes see very little time on the skins, thus preserving the freshness and vivacity of Dolcetto. This is certainly a wine meant to consume at nearly any occasion.

This western facing vineyard absorbs the afternoon warmth with great care. The grapes are never overripe and consistently have a streak of persistence running right through the middle. The grapes are hand-picked and sorted and fermentation happens without added yeast. The juice spends four days on skins in stainless steel before being racked to 100% new French barrique for four months where ML is carried out naturally, after this time it is then racked back to stainless steel for eight additional months.

This is ample and pliant without being overtly bearing, with tremendous depth and overall balance. This drinkable and yet beguiling Dolcetto is all about resonance, with classic hints of blue stone fruits, smoke, licorice and almonds that flesh out on the finish. Want to know what Dolcetto is supposed to taste like, look no further.

CUNEO

Agricola Ellena Giuseppe is located in the prized commune of 'La Morra'. The property is 15 hectares with five under vine and eight hectares of hazlenuts. From 1966 through the mid-2000s the Ellenas sold fruit to local co-ops and that all changed with the changing of the guard and young Mateo taking over the property with his father in 2009.  Learn More »
