Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC
In Jewish texts, Samael is better known as the ‘Angel of Death.’ It is believed that Samael is both good and evil in that he does the work of God but desires man to do evil. Samael is viewed as a seducer as was first spoken of in the Talmud as assuming the role of the serpent and tempting Eve in the Garden of Eden. The correlation here is that Montepulciano can be a very alluring and seductive grape that lends itself to pleasurable drinking. That said, often time Montepulciano is simple, thin and insipid. It is both good and bad.
This is 100% Montepulciano, from a single vineyard in Chieti located less than half a mile from the Adriatic Sea. The grapes were handpicked and fermented in stainless steel tanks with frequent pumpovers to soften tannins. Don't be fooled though as this is not some simple, light Montepulciano. 2014 was a notoriously difficult vintage up and down Italy but elevation and proximity to the sea helped this wine really pack some weight and structure.
It can be hit or miss with Montepulciano. This bottle is definitely a hit. Berry fruit, cherries and woodsy aromas herald a mid-full bodied, tangy river of cherry pie and cola laced by savory grilled herbs, piquant spice underpinned by grainy tannin.

Why limit yourself to just one region? Who really says that 'more' isn't better? As long as it is done the right way with 'real' people and 'real' vineyards, there are absolutely some incredible wines to be had. We like to think that these projects are snapshots of each region. Learn More »
Vine Street Imports has always been at the forefront of quality wine coupled with radical packaging. We have always viewed wine very, very seriously and the vehicle for which it comes not so seriously. There are certainly exceptions to this but when we have ‘full’ control of the product, it generally comes out with a little flair and fun. Learn More »
