Ochota Barrels
'Go with the Flow'
Adelaide Hills

100% whole bunch Barossa Mataró. This was a very low yield vintage biodynamically farmed in mid-March. The grapes were cold soaked for about 5 days until wild yeast fermentation occurred. Gently pigeaged on top/carbonic maceration below. The juice spends 11 days on skins and stalks. A basket press occurs to seasoned French barriques for 6 months with sporadic battonage for the first 2 months. The wine is unfined and unfiltered and there are no additions besides S02 at bottling.

Licorice, Russian caravan tea, black forest cake and medicinal spice ooze from the glass. The exotic black cherry, Moroccan wisp and deep earthy undergrowth has a voluptuous dark aura that seduces one into a haze. The palate is long, lithe and richly winds into a sheen of finely tuned tannins that flow across the palate like being wrapped in a warm opiate soaked velvet blanket.

The Ochota Barrels tale began on a surf trip, late 2000 along the Mexican west coast in a Volkswagen campervan. A final destination after traveling some of the world’s best wine and surf regions, Taras and Amber Ochota conceived the idea to make super premium wines back home in South Australia. The concept was to concentrate on the zenith variety of Mclaren Vale (Grenache) and the Barossa Valley (Shiraz), find an exceptional old vineyard site in each region and create plush, small batch, single vineyard wines. With the winery situated in Lenswood, and steep, high altutude, cool climate, north facing... Learn More »
