How we wish we could get more of this now "high allocated" and "cult-like" wine. Not cult-like in the Screaming Eagle, Sine Qua Non sense but more like Heaven's Gate sense. Follow blindly and drink the Jonestown Punch... :)

All kidding aside, this is a powerful wine that continues to have a strong following and those that have tasted it can attest to its spiritual abilities. Mr. Black’s Concoction represents the premium tier of wines from Small Gully. The vines are always dry-farmed and lean toward the ‘old vine’ status. The Shiraz in this wine hails from Darren’s vineyard off of Roennfeldt Road as well as in the Seppeltsfield Districts of the Barossa. The Grenache comes from 80 year old head-pruned vines from a cooler site near Marananga. The Mataró is from a 35 year old site on the white sand drifts of the western Barossa. All three varieties were fermented separately and left on skins post fermentation for 3 - 5 weeks before being drained and press to barrel.

The Grenache component of this wine offers intense red berries and candied fruit aromas and flavours. Mataro brings balanced structure, which is enhanced and lengthened with some smooth tannins from the Shiraz. Vibrant acidity ties all three varieties together. A beautiful example of Barossa Valley GSM.
