Grenache
McLaren Vale

This Grenache is from a single-vineyard located in the Whites Valley sub-region of McLaren Vale, in the southern part of vale. The vineyard is owned and run by good friends of Luke and Caleigh and borders their property. It was planted in the 1950's and the geology is Christies Beach formation, which is a mixture of alluvial flan clay, sand and gravel. It is one of the younger geologies of the McLaren Vale region.

The fruit for this release was hand-picked and fermented with indigenous yeast with 30% whole bunches. It was hand plunged throughout fermentation and kept on skins for 6 weeks before being basket pressed to seasoned French oak hogsheads. The wine was matured on full lees for 10 months prior to being gravity racked to bottle. It is unfined and unfiltered with small amount of SO2 prior to bottling.

Cloudy dark ruby colour in the glass. Rose petal, cinnamon, rhubarb, gentle natural feel. Plums and cherries. Good tension, fine sandy tannin and very good length. Plenty of personality and charisma.

In so doing, the foundations were being put in place for two wine dynasties that were to dominate the region for over a century. McLaren Vale became the model of the small winery before such enterprises became fashionable in other states, and it... Learn More »

YEAR WINES

MCLAREN VALE

Through a mixture of serendipity and blind faith, Luke Growden and Caleigh Hunt started Year Wines in 2012. Amidst the chaos of a new baby, sleep deprivation, house renovations and juggling day jobs, the lure of fruit from a block of old vine Grenache was too much to resist. It was a crazy year, a life-changing year.  Learn More »
