This blend is based upon Portugese varieties planted in the Barossa Valley during the fortified winemaking days of the late 1940’s. Tinta Negra Mole is a red grape from the Isle of Madeira off the coast of mainland Portugal. Touriga Nacional is one of the 5 most important red grapes planted in the Douro Valley. Cabernet was brought in to elongate and fine up the palate, especially as Tinto Negra Mole is traditionally juicy, candied kind of variety. A scavenger hunt for cool, older vineyards and the Portuguese port varieties that dot the Barossa landscape. The Cab Sauv comes from McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek from older plantings.
