Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC
This hails from a single high altitude block of Paradiso in the heart of La Morra. Low yields and selection of the best berries create the canvas for the art. 15 days of skin contact for a bit more extraction than the normale Barbera d'Alba. 24 months in 30% new French barrique and voila...the second vintage of 'Alferi.'
It has a brilliant, dark ruby red color. The scents are embracing, harmonious and deep, with hints of spice at first glance and ripe fruit. On the palate the wine is well structured, fresh and with good acidity and great balance. The palate is full of sweet blackberries and plums with a kiss of vanilla. The tannins embrace the palate warmly leading to a lengthy and persistent finish.

The winery is located in La Morra, but that hasn’t stopped young winemaker, Matteo Ellena from scouring various parts of Piedmont in search of some really unique sites. The estate covers about 15 hectares; hazelnuts cover approximately 8 hectares and vines cover about 4. The rest is woodlands. The current farm was bought by Francesco and Giovanni in 1966.
